Farewell to Erika Papendell

Last weekend some unusual statements wrapped up in first-class sounds were to be enjoyed in the garden of St. Ambrosius House. Just two examples of the songs sung by the Augsburger Domsingknaben were "Frau Papendell, wir vermissen ihre Kochkunst" ("Mrs Papendell, We Will Miss Your Cuisine") and "Jedes Essen werden wird niemals vergessen" ("We Will Never Forget any of Your Meals"). With these songs and a voucher for a free wellness weekend, the entire St. Ambrosius House said farewell to Erika Papendell, for many years the caretaker and manager of the House now entering well-deserved retirement. For almost 20 years, Mrs Papendell had not only been the "good soul" of the House, but also a wonderful cook pampering the young singers five times a week and on countless special occasions with a delicious three-course lunch. In the words of Domkapellmeister Reinhard Kammler, this added up to "more than 20,000 meals over these many years". So now the Augsburger Domsingknaben thanked Mrs Papendell once again for her "1000 per cent" commitment and dedication to the job. And a particularly important point that makes everybody happy is that Mrs Papendell will go on living in the St. Ambrosius House during her years of retirement.
